Standing up for a cause, creating, shaping, solving something together, committing to others and acting together, doing together and being brave: What could be the one or the other thing that you and we, together, care about? Civil society projects were invited to apply for the Upper Austrian State Prize for Social, Civil Society Innovation. KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd was asked to design trophies for the prize winners.

With this invitation, KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd and the association “dieziwi – die Zivilgesell- schaft wirkt” (dieziwi – the civil society impacts) turned to art and culture enthusiasts and invited them to a process at the end of which a trophy found its form.

The design of the trophies was created in an innovative and participatory process typical of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd. The idea of civil society was thought of by many people in different directions. The KunstRaum’s self-image creates the framework to “think big”, to perceive differences with relish and to trust in the “spot landing”.

In their search for a form of social cohesion, the project participants Sanja Bajakić, Susanne Blaimschein, Gerti Dobetsberger, Christian Lanz, Elisabeth Larcher, Beate Rathmayr and Gertraud Sobotka created words and written objects made of coloured transparent plexiglass, which remind the award winners of the meaningfulness of their actions for civil society and strengthen them.

The trophies were presented at the symposium “Civil Society of the Future – Co-creation Works” in September 2021 at the JKU.
