Let’s do our own thing!

How can exhibition objects serve to tell our own stories? How can we create new stories by bringing new, strange, and interesting things into the world?

Inspired by visits to exhibitions and discussions at LENTOS, art and culture enthusiasts were encouraged to develop their own artistic ideas. The focus was on the act of creation, the craft, and the design of an object. Every object tells a story.

Create a story. Tell it in words and pictures!

We saddled the horses and rode off in all directions! Where are you riding to?

Participants from the fields of writing and visual arts, an inclusive group, were invited to create books. The annual theme of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd, “They saddled the horses and rode off in all directions,” served as inspiration.

Begun before the lockdown and continued at home during it, workshops were later restarted at KunstRaum and used for development and exchange.

Highly personal themes, very diverse forms of expression, and highly autonomous approaches were chosen. Short stories, essays, fairy tales, poems, drawings, photomontages, watercolors… make stories visible in order to “continue telling” them.

Paper Flowers – Craft Kits for Home

Making paper flowers?! When was the last time you did that?

Many people responded to the call from KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd to make paper flowers during the Covid-19 lockdown, bringing a little joy to their dreary everyday lives. Craft kits containing materials (paper strips, wooden sticks, glue for six different flowers) and instructions for 1,500 flowers were sent out, and the paper flower makers received remote support, advice, and motivation as needed. The colorful bouquets of paper lavender, sunflowers, zinnias, daisies, dahlias, and anemones fostered a sense of community through shared activity, provided fun and moments of accomplishment, and brightened up homes.

Forever young. Invulnerable. Immortal.

What if we found images for our own story and sought out our heroes? What if we let saddled horses and cats tell a shared tale?

Where and how did I grow up? Which musical instrument would I like to be able to play? Which animals lived and live with me? We asked young people what they would like to try and whether they would like to be younger or older. Conclusion: Destroying heroes to create something new. The drawings were created in a workshop by young people from lunch.box and woven into a shared narrative.

DIRECTIONS
Travel in your mind and explore the whole world! Be inspired to push boundaries!

On expeditions along the cardinal directions, the unknown and new were discovered, and participants were encouraged to find their own place on our planet. These explorations led workshop participants from reality into fantasy and back again through artistic and creative methods. From March to September 2019, 24 workshops took place in the six regions of Upper Austria with more than 130 participants.

Furthermore, bags were produced:

The bag’s design depicts a world created by clients of pro mente Upper Austria as part of a project: drawings of people, animals, landscapes, and unique features they encountered on their imaginary journeys in all directions.

By purchasing this bag, you carry a piece of the world with you.
