Paper circles and paper tells stories

Until the end of April, the workshop “Paper Cycles” transformed waste paper and other remnants into new objects, both large and small. Partly for practical use, partly for material exploration, and everything in between. Participants built thinking machines, wove small and large bowls, spun bird nests, and discovered new weaving techniques. What united us all was the learning process itself.

Starting May 23rd, the workshop continues every two weeks at KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd with “Paper Tells a Story,” focusing on the technique of papermaking. We will create unique pieces that tell a story. We will collect local plants, clippings from books and magazines, old diaries, and manuscripts. These will be incorporated into the new creations, thus imbuing them with history.

“The beauty lies in the surprise. Seeing what it will be. And what you then see in it.”

“I’m taking away how much more you can achieve when you just sit and do things. And how much peace that brings.”

“The process. That impressed me. From the initial idea to how it became what it is. But that was a good thing. Because with the prototype, I quickly realized I didn’t like it. I didn’t like my original plan. And now I’m satisfied.”

“I never would have imagined that this would come of it. A real new world. Step by step.”

“I always get so frustrated when things don’t turn out the way I initially imagined. But here, suddenly that wasn’t so important.”
