CITY OF RESPECT

HOSTED BY LINZ AG LINIEN AND FRIEDENSSTADT LINZ, INITIATED BY KUNSTRAUM GOETHESTRASSE XTD, PRO MENTE OÖ

The expansion of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd in 2008 was accompanied by the vision of a City of Respect.
The aim is to create a place where every person can create and move something. The foundation for this is a respectful way of dealing with one another. Since then, KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd has been working on this
vision with artists and partners in workshops, performances, and interventions in public space. This is intended
to set a social, cultural and individual process in motion in the direction of a City of Respect. In 2015 the LINZ AG
LINIEN and Friedensstadt Linz decided to take responsibility for a city of respectful togetherness and entered
into a cooperation for communicating this fundamental stance. The campaign City of Respect _ hosted by
LINZ AG LINIEN and Friedensstadt Linz grew out of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd’s concept and project ideas
for joint actions in public space. The campaign City of Respect _ hosted by LINZ AG LINIEN and Friedensstadt
Linz grew out of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd’s concept and project ideas for joint actions in public space.
Building on art and communication formats, work was carried out with the partners to increase visibility. Due to
the prominent positioning and the large reach, it was necessary to communicate not only artistically, but also to
convey targeted and visually unambiguous contents. The design of the campaign is distinguished by the balance
of artistic freedom in developing ideas and the limitations of the media used and the broad impact aspired to.
In July 2016 KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd became the flagship store and the point of contact for the City of
Respect, which was simultaneously launched in the media and on the public transportation of the LINZ AG LINIEN.
The theme was amplified until June 2017 through the involvement of local personalities, artistic projects and
exhibitions.
The aim of the LINZ AG LINIEN and Friedensstadt Linz was to support respectful togetherness through the
communication measures of the City of Respect campaign: in addition to the wide-scale impact of the media
communication, people were motivated to contribute and respond to calls for participation in the projects. In the
years to come, KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd will be looking for further partner organizations to carry on the
City of Respect _ hosted by … campaign.
