Counter Space

PROTEST, APPELL & REMEMBRANCE

Exhibition dates: October 12 – October 31, 2023 at the KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd showroom

How can, should, and must resistance be offered and lived – today as in the past?

BestOFF 2023 is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the University of Art and Design Linz and is a radical collective. In keeping with this theme, the anniversary BestOFF, curated by raumarbeiterinnen, spilled out into the city this year, illuminating Linz’s diverse art and cultural landscape. Graduate works are on display at the University of Art and Design Linz, while student works are exhibited at various art institutions outside the university.

The KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd is a partner in the project, presenting the exhibition “Counter Space” in its showroom and the presentation “Olivia K.: Sketches and Conglomerates by the Missing Artist” at the University of Art and Design Linz.

The “Counter Space” exhibition explores a vibrant culture of protest, appeal, and remembrance. The exhibited works address subjective connections to everyday resistance and engage with socio-political issues. Resistance is conceived as a form of political participation and considered an integral part of societal debates. 12 artistic positions (see below) use the space to make different approaches and ways of dealing with resistance visible.
