The sky full of hearts – Start of City of Respect 2022
On 25 March, we launched the project series “City of Respect. We build on solidarity” project series for 2022. “What feeds my big heart? What yours?” – is the guiding question.
In a series of five artistic-creative actions, which will take place until July 2022, we will look at respectful coexistence for people, animals and the world and in the process experience new things, strengthen togetherness and explore the public space of Steyr!
Participants from various pro mente Upper Austria locations in the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen, Steyr and Kirchdorf regions have developed ideas, images and wishes for what THEIR city of respect could look like: What do we need today and in the future to strengthen respectful interaction? What does a city of respect in Steyr look like?
“The balloon launch could not have had a more suitable location from my point of view. Because it reached beyond itself, aroused curiosity, enabled contact and literally gave wings!”
The launching of the balloons was not only symbolic, touching moments of mutual support, visible joy in doing and being together and high concentration to accomplish the tasks were noticeable throughout. Throughout the workshop, it was necessary to engage and let go.
The yellow heart was chosen as a symbol for the whole project series. With this “sky full of hearts”, we filled our hearts.
The yellow heart is the symbol for the project series “City of Respect. We build on solidarity” of the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen region, Steyr /Kirchdorf.
300 balloons were filled. Thanks to the team of the atrium for their hospitality and to Judith Eickhoff who sweetened the start with home-baked goods.

Workshop with exchange, discussion and space explorations in the atrium
We ask ourselves questions and look for answers for a city of respect. The postcards were produced at Druckwerkstatt Steyr.
Under the guidance of actor Tom Pohl, the participants were introduced to the topic and prepared for the joint balloon launch in a playful way, using body and language.
“The day for me was the interplay of colours, voices, light, movement; of words, facial expressions and gestures – so many signals to affirm life and the willingness to make togetherness bearable for all.” (Reinhard Winkler)
Scarves for all project participants for the action are handed out to become visible as a group. They were sewn by filino Linz.
Bundling the balloons in small and large swarms, holding them tightly in our hands, we set off together on foot.
The people we met were delighted!
Residents on their terrace. Since March 2022, pro mente Upper Austria has moved into the new residential building. We wish all residents a wonderful life in their new home!
The balloon launch took place in several stages. First, individual balloons, accompanied by wishes, were sent into the sky at selected locations, such as the playground, a hill or a wooden wall. Thanks to all the neighbours who accompanied this action.
The lunch package – filled with delicacies – was handed over to all project participants at the end.
Baked especially for all project participants. Thanks to the ATZ Seidlbräu for the packed lunch.
And at the end we said goodbye to each other with a wish: Little heart, Little heart, fly!
The next action “Collecting rainwater” will take place on April 29th 2022, from 9.00 am – 1.00 pm. Meeting place: Psychosozialer Treffpunkt (former clubhouse) Steyr.
The results of the action series will be presented in October 2022 in the KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd. “City of Respect. We build on solidarity” is an initiative of pro mente Upper Austria, initiated by KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd.
