Being an animal is unattainable. An approach to a cat could hardly be anything other than the conception we, as humans, have of it and formulate.

Accordingly, the majority of empathy would very likely be directed toward ourselves.

The desire to understand cats is not necessarily logical. We can observe the relationship between cats and mirrors without receiving a reflection. Moreover, not even the cat expects this.

In the project “Does the Cat Understand Me?”, one could see the process as a movement: anticipating this reflection while simultaneously being content with and drawing inspiration from the brief moments of “surprise.”

DOES THE CAT UNDERSTAND ME? Part 2: Building Models – April to May 2024

A multi-part project that puts the cats of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd in the spotlight. We want to get to know them better! Find out what they think, feel, and above all, whether they understand us. The cats will become a part of us, and we a part of them. We started with sketchbooks to find images, statements, and messages that connect us to the cats and that we can share. Next, we will build models, write stories, and develop audio pieces. Time, space, and sound will be used to get a little closer to the animals. It’s going to be exciting!
