The title of Alvin Lucier’s sound piece inspires us to create a project we’d like to realize together with you, and we warmly invite you to join us. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, we’re bringing the idea to your home and asking you to send us your contributions. This invitation is extended to those of you who have already participated in various KunstRaum projects, to friends of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd, and is open to everyone who would like to participate. If you like, forward the invitation to your friends and tell those you’d like to include!

“I am sitting in a room different from the one you are in now,” or, in a free translation, “The room in which I sit is different from the one where you are now,” embodies for us a current description of our situation, being confined to our own four walls more often, and sparks an interest in other people. Furthermore, this project is part of the exploration of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd’s 2021 theme: “I am inside, not outside.”

I AM SITTING IN A ROOM DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE YOU ARE IN NOW. (Alvin Lucier)

YOUR SPACE – What does your home look like? Which room do you like to spend time in? Where do you feel comfortable? What do you see when you let your gaze wander over the room and the things in it? What atmosphere do you perceive? What is the light like? What is the smell like? What do you hear from outside or from inside?

We want to know where you are right now, what you perceive, what the space allows you to experience, or what it can tell us about you. We will all be spending more time in our own homes again in the coming weeks.

We ask you to use your smartphone in this space to send us an audio message. Try to describe this space in a few sentences and also put your “being” in this space into words. Send us your audio recordings to our phones, or, if you prefer, write down your perceptions and send them by email or call us. In this case, Beate or Susanne will then process the texts into an audio message.

All collected audio messages will subsequently be compiled into a single recording and made audible as a soundscape in an installation in the exhibition space of KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd.

A FESTIVE TABLE – set with many things, one of which is yours!

We invite you to join us in setting the festive table, just as is customary at celebrations. Unfortunately, our planned Christmas party, a highlight for all of us at KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd, cannot take place this year. Therefore, we would like to express our sense of community in a different way. We ask you to contribute an item—a piece of your coffee or dinner service, a coffee cup, a dessert fork, a soup plate, or whatever you like. You can send it by post, drop it off directly at KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd, or, if none of that works, we could arrange transport.

Your item will become part of the installation in the KunstRaum Goethestrasse xtd exhibition space, and you will thus be visibly represented as part of the KunstRaum community. The installation will be on display until the end of January 2022. We will inform you as soon as the table is set!
